Traction 3d was hired by HBO to produce replicas of the original Iron Throne from the set of the Game of Thrones, when the series originally launched. The Throne is an exact replica based on a lidar scan of the Throne on set, measuring over 7’6” in height. Over the eight season run, traction 3d artists produced close to 60 replicas, shipping them to over 35 international destinations, along with being used at hundreds of marketing events that were put on throughout the series. Hydraulic versions that folded in half were developed to fit under the stage and then reconstruct using a wireless remote for the live concert series, featuring composer Ramin Djawadi. Each Throne took approximately 6 weeks to produce, all of which were hand painted by the same artist to maintain consistency across all of the units produced.
